I review students' exercises against the brief, give feedback and help make sure each one ends up with a strong final project to showcase.

About me

I'm Filipe Monteiro, a Product Designer with five years across e-commerce, e-mobility and hospitality tech. Most problems that look like interface problems are not. The friction usually sits in the logic, the data model or the flow underneath, and that is where I spend my time.

When the system underneath is right, the interface gets simple. I'm currently at Ruby GmbH, owning product features end to end and acting as Product Owner for WCAG and EAA accessibility across our digital products, a gap I found and then took on.

Experience

E-commerce, then e-mobility, then hospitality. Different industries, the same pattern each time: the interface was faithfully doing whatever the system underneath told it to and the person using it was the one paying for that.

UX/UI Specialist — Ruby GmbH

2024 – Present

Own product features end to end across a multi-product platform, working hypothesis-driven: define the problem, form a hypothesis, prototype fast with AI tools, test with real users and iterate on the data.

Designed and shipped a self-serve booking engine, replacing a staff-gated flow and turning a friction point into a self-directed experience. In its first seven weeks after launch it drove 23% of bookings and 27% of revenue.

Redesigned Ruby's self check-in kiosk from scratch, handling the data requirements of guests from nine countries in a single interface. Validated through 180 moderated tests with real hotel guests: 20% faster solo check-in, 22% faster for groups. First rollout Q3 2026.

Evolve and maintain the design system across products, and own accessibility company-wide as Product Owner for WCAG / EAA.

UX/UI Designer — The Mobility House

2023 – 2024

Owned end-to-end UX and UI for eyond, a smart EV-charging app on iOS and Android, designing flows that balanced consumer simplicity with real energy-market complexity.

Built the eyond design system from the ground up. Components, patterns and documentation the team works from.

Validated direction through rapid prototyping and three research methods before build, staying with the work through engineering implementation to ensure quality.

UX/UI Designer & Business Analyst — Conrad Electronic

2021 – 2022

Worked as UX/UI Designer on Conrad Electronic's e-commerce platform, designing across multiple product areas within the existing design system.

Concurrently took on Business Analyst responsibilities for the same team, translating stakeholder and engineering requirements into structured specifications.

Tracked the team's KPIs and owned the weekly report on its three headline metrics, presenting their evolution to stakeholders along with the initiatives we ran to move them and what those produced.

Initiatives

One is a critique practice I started at Ruby and still run. The other was an evening I organised in Munich.

UX Office Hours

A recurring critique practice I started and run at Ruby, with its own channel for planning sessions and interim testing between them. Built to keep design decisions grounded in team feedback instead of made in isolation.

Hatch Mixer Munich

Organised and hosted the Hatch Mixer in Munich, an evening bringing together designers, researchers and product thinkers from across the city. Good conversations, no slides.
